Rumson, Fair Haven, Little Silver, Shrewsbury and Oceanport sit between the Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers. Getting into Rumson means crossing the Oceanic Bridge or the new Rumson Sea Bright Bridge, both of which open for boats. In Oceanport, the old Fort Monmouth is being redeveloped into new homes.
Middletown is 16 neighborhoods across about 350 miles of road, from Belford and Port Monmouth on the bay to Lincroft and Navesink. Holmdel has the PNC Bank Arts Center right off Parkway Exit 116, so check the concert calendar before an evening move.
Marlboro, Manalapan, Freehold Township, Howell, Colts Neck and Millstone are bigger lots and bigger houses, plus a lot of 55 and over communities like Covered Bridge and Greenbriar. Most high schoolers go to the Freehold Regional district, except Millstone, which sends to Allentown High School.
This is the one that catches people. Colts Neck and Freehold Township don't collect household garbage at all, so residents hire private haulers, and Freehold Township only picks up bulk once a year. Middletown, Howell and Manalapan schedule bulk pickup. Check your town page before you put furniture at the curb.
Deal, Wall, Spring Lake, Sea Girt, Manasquan and Brielle swell in summer. The Route 35 drawbridge between Brielle and Point Pleasant Beach runs on a summer schedule, and the Glimmer Glass Bridge in Manasquan bars commercial vehicles, so moving trucks need another route.
JCP&L handles electric across Monmouth County, and New Jersey Natural Gas serves most towns. Water varies: New Jersey American Water serves Little Silver, Shrewsbury, Middletown and Holmdel, while Colts Neck homes are all on private wells and septic.
