Stafford includes Manahawkin, Beach Haven West, part of Ocean Acres, and smaller places like Cedar Run, Mayetta and Warren Grove. Beach Haven West was dredged out of salt marsh starting in 1957 and has more than 130 lagoons and about 5,000 homes.
A lot of Manahawkin and Beach Haven West homes sit right on the lagoons, and many have been raised. Expect stairs, and keep the lids on when the driveway's wet. Over half of Beach Haven West's homes are summer places, so spring and fall are busy for opening and closing moves.
Route 72 over the Manahawkin Bay bridges is the only road onto Long Beach Island, so all the beach traffic funnels through Manahawkin. Parkway Exit 63 is at Route 72. Summer Fridays and Saturdays are rough, so pick a weekday if you can.
